25%

More Inbound Calls

NorthPeak HVAC had the service capacity to take on more work. The problem was visibility.

When homeowners searched for HVAC services in Calgary, competitors were consistently appearing ahead of them in Google Maps.

The company already had a strong reputation and years of experience. But reputation only matters when potential customers can find you.

01 — Context

The Challenge

NorthPeak wasn't starting from zero.

They had an established business, an active Google Business Profile, a functioning website, and a solid customer base.

The problem was that their online presence wasn't reflecting the strength of the actual business.

For searches such as:

"HVAC company Calgary""AC repair near Calgary""furnace repair Calgary"

the company was regularly appearing below stronger local competitors. That created a simple business problem:

"If homeowners don't see you when they're ready to call, your reputation doesn't get a chance to work."

Our initial audit identified three major gaps.

01.

Google Maps visibility

The business wasn't consistently appearing in the top local results for several high-intent searches.

02.

Review gap

NorthPeak had 87 Google reviews, while leading competitors in the same service area averaged approximately 143 reviews — a visibility and trust disadvantage.

03.

Website performance

The website performed reasonably well on desktop but was significantly slower on mobile — a problem when a homeowner is searching from their phone mid-breakdown.

02 — Strategy

Strategy

We didn't approach this as a traditional "SEO campaign." The objective was much simpler: get NorthPeak in front of more homeowners at the exact moment they were looking for help.

Four focus areas

Google Business Profile

Improve relevance, completeness, activity, and local signals.

Reviews

Create a more consistent process for generating genuine customer reviews.

Local website optimization

Strengthen location and service relevance across important pages.

Performance

Reduce mobile friction and improve page loading speed.

"The goal wasn't more website traffic. The goal was more homeowners picking up the phone."
03 — Execution

Execution

01. Google Business Profile Optimization

The first step was cleaning up and strengthening the company's Google Business Profile. We reviewed:

Primary and secondary categoriesService listingsBusiness descriptionService-area signalsPhotosReview activityBusiness information consistencyLocal relevanceCompetitor positioning

We then aligned the profile around the services NorthPeak actually wanted to generate more business from. The focus shifted from:

"We're an HVAC company in Calgary."

"We're the company customers should find when they need HVAC repair, installation, maintenance, and emergency service in Calgary."

02. Closing the Review Gap

The company had 87 reviews when the campaign started. The top local competitors averaged around 143. That difference matters.

A homeowner comparing several HVAC companies doesn't see your expertise, years of experience, or internal operations. They see:

Business nameStar ratingReview countPhotosServicesDistance

And then they decide who gets the click.

New reviews

We focused on creating a consistent review-request process after completed jobs. The objective wasn't to manufacture reviews — it was to make sure satisfied customers had an easy way to share their experience.

03. Local Search Optimization

The website wasn't treated as a separate SEO project. We connected the website with the Google Business Profile strategy. Priority pages were optimized around high-intent searches including:

  • HVAC Repair Calgary
  • Air Conditioning Repair Calgary
  • Furnace Repair Calgary
  • HVAC Installation Calgary

The changes focused on

Search intentService/location relevancePage structureInternal linkingLocal contentCalls to actionTrust signals

Each page was designed to answer the question a homeowner actually had: "Can these people solve my problem, and can they help me here?"

04. Mobile Performance

The audit showed that mobile performance was another weak point. That mattered because local service searches are often highly action-oriented.

A customer searching "AC repair near me" isn't necessarily interested in reading a 2,000-word article. They want to know:

  • Can you help me?
  • Are you nearby?
  • Can I trust you?
  • How quickly can I reach you?
  • What's the number?

We reduced unnecessary page weight, improved mobile layout, and made the primary call action easier to find.

Before → After

Who gets the call

BeforeLocal Search Path
  1. Google Search — “HVAC Calgary”
  2. NorthPeak — page 2 / lower local visibility
  3. Customer chooses competitor
  4. Competitor receives the call

Lower local visibility meant homeowners never reached the profile.

AfterLocal Search Path
  1. Google Search — “HVAC Calgary”
  2. NorthPeak — higher local visibility
  3. Customer visits profile
  4. Reviews + services + location
  5. Website / Call
  6. Qualified lead

Stronger visibility, reviews and mobile experience turned searches into qualified leads.

04 — Outcome

The 60-Day Result

After approximately 60 days, NorthPeak's local search performance showed measurable improvement.

Potential annualized revenue opportunity

44 additional calls

× 35% booking rate

= 15.4 additional jobs

× $650 average job value

≈ $10,000 additional monthly job revenue

For a local trades business, traffic isn't the final KPI. Calls are. If the average job generated approximately $650 in revenue, the additional 44 monthly calls created a meaningful opportunity.

The actual revenue impact depends on lead quality, close rate, job value, seasonality, and repeat business.

The important shift was that the company wasn't simply getting more impressions. It was creating more opportunities to talk to homeowners who were actively looking for its services.

What Made the Difference?

The campaign didn't rely on one magic SEO trick. The improvement came from fixing several small weaknesses that were working against each other.

Before
  • 87 reviews
  • Weak local visibility
  • Slow mobile experience
  • Limited service/location optimization
  • Inconsistent review generation
After
  • 129 reviews
  • Stronger Google Maps visibility
  • Improved mobile experience
  • Better service/location relevance
  • Consistent review acquisition

More Local Customers

Local Intent

One Search Can Be Worth More Than 1,000 Visitors

For an HVAC company, someone searching "HVAC company Calgary" has a completely different intent from someone casually reading an HVAC blog post.

They're already looking for a provider.

That makes local search one of the most valuable acquisition channels for trades businesses. The job isn't simply to rank. It's to make sure that when someone searches, your business gives them enough confidence to choose you.

"Visibility gets the click. Trust gets the call. The experience gets the job."
Client Perspective
"We knew we needed to improve our Google presence, but we didn't realize how much business we were losing by being less visible than competitors. The biggest difference was seeing the increase in actual calls, not just rankings."
